The tarot deck is made up of 78 cards, divided into four suits: cups, swords, wands, and pentacles. Each suit represents a different aspect of the human experience, and the cups suit, specifically, represents emotions and feelings.

Cups cards often depict images of chalices, goblets, or other vessels that are used to hold liquids. These symbols are meant to represent the emotional and intuitive aspects of the human experience. The cups suit is associated with the element of water, which, too, is symbolic of emotions and feelings.

In a tarot reading, cups cards can indicate matters of the heart, such as love, relationships, and emotions associated with life experiences. They can also represent creativity, intuition, and spiritual connections. Some people believe that there are positive cups cards, such as the Ace of Cups or the Queen of Cups, that can indicate a time of emotional fulfillment and happiness, while negative cards, such as the Five of Cups or the Ten of Cups, can indicate a time of emotional turmoil or disappointment. As a Tarot reader myself, I avoid labeling emotions as negative or positive and focus more on what messages we can learn from experiencing emotions on either end of the spectrum - which emotions indicate “more of this” and which indicate “this doesn’t work.”

In a tarot reading, the cups suit can provide insight into one's emotional state and can offer guidance for navigating emotional challenges. It is important to rememberthat while some readers claim that tarot readings can predict the future, I believe that they are not meant to predict the future and can be used instead to provide guidance and insight on what action steps you can take to impact your future.

When interpreting the cups cards in a tarot reading, it is important to consider the surrounding cards and to pay attention to the feelings and emotions that they evoke. The cups suit can offer a deeper understanding of one's emotional state and can provide guidance for navigating the challenges and opportunities that arise in the emotional realm.
